George F. Hellmuth

George F. Hellmuth, FAIA, (now retired) received the first Honor Award presented by the AIA in 1956. Recognized as a pioneer of team approach to architecture, Hellmuth emphasized throughout his career the need to consistently produce high quality buildings. He regularly shared his operational principles and techniques with other architects through marketing seminars sponsored by the AIA and the American Management Association. Hellmuth received a bachelor's and master's degree of architecture from Washington University in St. Louis, and also studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts at Fountainebleau, France, after winning the H. H. Steadman Traveling Fellowship in Architecture in 1931. In 1990, Hellmuth was given the Gold Medal Award by the St. Louis Chapter of the AIA.
