Srebrniče Cemetery
A cemetery in the middle of a forest is a novelty in Slovenia, bringing with it a slightly Scandinavian touch. The architectural objects are divided into two parts, with a flower shop and service premises located by the entrance. From there, a long straight path leads the visitor past the funeral chapels, hidden behind a wooden fence, towards the funeral edifice. The chapels, marked by sculptures by Janez Pirnat, open towards the green inner patios for greater intimacy. The funeral edifice has glazed walls, forming a link with nature. A projecting roof in front of it is supported by a „forest“ of pillars, also ensuring greater intimacy. In the back of the complex, chimes are built into the wooden fence. These chimes can be played, in line with the local tradition.
