The central concept of the Konyári Winery was to place it in nature. Winemakers wanted to mellow wine with gravitational technology and they were looking for a suitable place for the unit that is why it was a basic winery principle to build the house on the hillside. This functional need was exploited as an architectural moulding force – the vast majority of the building’s area was situated beneath the ground, the block above the ground was established as a continuation of the hill. The house was built of reused bricks melting into the slopes of cultivated grape-hills, but manifested in dignity. (text: Miklos Sulyok)
