The fountain was erected to celebrate the one thousandth anniversary of Solkan, a town by the Soča River, close to the Slovene-Italian border. The motif of the river, winding between the mountains towards the sea, was transposed to the fountain in a most innovative way: just like the river, the water in the fountain winds between the stones. The fountain's form resembles more a modern sculpture, marked by the water which reflects the light, running in ever-changing forms and adding to the composition the background sound of rippling water. The realisation was difficult technologically, since the concrete shell is clad with three dimensional changing stone slabs. Traditionally, fountains on town squares were intended for water supply; here the authors managed to find a new solution to an old theme.
